The Lurker
You've read every message since 2021 and said forty things.
You read everything and post about twice a week
You're there for the material, not the logistics
You check in, follow up, and remember the hard weeks
Who you are
You're in every chat and visible in none of them. You know who's dating who, who's job-hunting, who's been off for three weeks — all of it, absorbed silently while contributing a thumbs up here and there.
But you're not cold about it. When it counts you show up: the right text on the right day, the thing you remembered from four months ago. Your warmth just runs on DM rather than in the group.
The mismatch is that people can only see what's in the chat. To them you're quiet and slightly hard to read, which is a strange thing to be when you're actually the most informed person in the room.
One visible thing a week. React to something, answer a question in public, drop one line. The gap between how much you care and how much shows is the only real problem here.
You know it's you when…
- You know everything happening in a group you barely post in
- Your best friendship maintenance happens in DMs
- People describe you as quiet and it doesn't quite fit
