The Ride or Die
You won't say much. You'll just never not be there.
You know early and you don't pretend otherwise
You'd rather show up than announce anything
You want the lives actually mixed together
Who you are
You commit early and you commit with your hands. Rides to the airport at 5 a.m., their prescription picked up without being asked, their mom's birthday in your calendar. You decided fast, and the deciding shows up as logistics rather than speeches.
Being loved by you is extremely solid and slightly hard to hear. People raised on words sometimes stand in a kitchen you just fixed and still wonder how you feel. You think that's obvious. It's obvious to you.
You also merge quickly — their people become your people, their problems become your project. That's beautiful and it can quietly erase the line where you end. Two years in, you sometimes can't name anything that's just yours.
Keep the doing. Add four words a month. "I'm glad you're here" costs you almost nothing and lands somewhere the airport rides don't reach.
You know it's you when…
- You know their coffee order and their doctor's name
- You've driven to the airport at 5 a.m. more than once
- You assumed they knew, because look at everything you do
