Who you are

You're the person who says the thing. Not dramatically — plainly, close to when it happened, in ordinary words. When you're happy people know, when something bugs you people know, and when you don't know yet you say that too. It sounds simple. It is genuinely rare, and it's why people exhale a little around you.

Closeness doesn't cost you anything, so you don't ration it. You text first without keeping score. You say "I miss you" on a Tuesday for no reason. You ask for help before it becomes a crisis. None of that feels brave to you, which is exactly why it works on people for whom it would be.

Your blind spot is assuming everyone runs on the same operating system. When someone goes quiet, you take it at face value — and sometimes the quiet was a message you were supposed to decode. Not every silence is neutral. With certain people, the silence is the entire conversation.

The other thing to watch: because conflict costs you so little, you can raise things faster than the other person can absorb them. Same honesty, half a beat slower, and most of that friction disappears.
