The Unprompted Theory
You have a whole theory and nobody asked for it.
Yours is a rule, a theory or a ranking that runs somewhere internal
Anyone who spends an afternoon with you has already met it
You cannot explain it and you have stopped trying to
Who you are
You arrive at conversations carrying an elaborate explanation for something nobody had flagged as needing one. Why that intersection is designed wrong. What the naming convention on those products reveals. The actual reason that one shop never has customers. The theory is detailed, it has been developed over time, and it is delivered with no preamble.
This becomes visible immediately, because you can't sit on it. Somebody mentions the thing and the whole structure comes out at once, complete with the evidence you've been collecting.
What keeps it charming rather than tiring is that you're not trying to be right. The theory is a thing you made for fun, and you'd happily hear a better one. That lightness is the entire difference between a person who's interesting to sit next to and a person who's explaining.
The one tell that it's tipped: if you'd be annoyed to be wrong about the intersection, the theory has stopped being a toy.
You know it's you when…
- The theory came out complete, with no preamble
- You'd been collecting evidence for it for months
- Someone offered a better one and you enjoyed it
