The Fixed Point
People navigate by you without ever saying so.
People get the same version of you on a good week and a bad one
You name the thing while it is still uncomfortable to name
Your care shows up as rides, meals, logistics, things done
Who you are
You are the same person on a Tuesday in a good month and a Tuesday in a terrible one. When something breaks you say so early, and then you handle the part that can be handled. There is no decoding involved in being close to you, which is rarer than you think.
This is a real green flag because it removes an entire category of work from the people around you. Nobody has to figure out what mood you're in before asking for something. Nobody has to wonder whether last week's version of you is the one showing up. That saved effort compounds over years.
What it costs you is flexibility. Someone who needed a softer entry point, or more time before being told the truth, can find you a lot to take at full strength. Consistency delivered at the wrong moment reads as not noticing.
You don't need to become less direct. Just check once, out loud, whether they want it now or in an hour. The answer takes two seconds and changes how the whole thing lands.
You know it's you when…
- People check their read of a situation against yours
- You told someone the truth before they were ready to hear it
- Somebody said you have not changed in ten years, and meant it well
