Who you are

You don't get one ick — you accumulate evidence. Over weeks you notice how they act around waiters, friends, strangers, and the pattern slowly outweighs how they are with you. Then one day the file is closed.

This is actually a good instinct badly labeled. How someone treats people who can't do anything for them is the single most reliable character signal there is, and you read it fluently. Most people ignore this data entirely.

The trap is that you're running the assessment silently. They never learn what's being weighed, never get a chance to explain the odd night, and the verdict lands as a total surprise. You've been in a conversation they weren't invited to.

Say one observation out loud while it's still small. It's information, not an accusation — and it gives them a chance you'd otherwise never offer.
