The Whirlwind
Week one felt like month six. That was the problem.
You escalate early, and the first three weeks look like the third month
They get the unedited version before they asked for any version
The conversation finds its way home to what you are dealing with
Who you are
You move fast, you tell them everything, and the conversation keeps finding its way back to you. None of those is a crime on its own. Together they produce a first month that feels enormous, and a second month where the other person quietly realizes they never got a turn.
The reason this works at first is that intensity reads as interest. You are not faking it — you really are that invested that early. People mistake the speed for depth, and they match it, and for a few weeks it is genuinely wonderful.
The flag is that nobody consented to that pace, including you. There was no point where either of you decided this was the speed. By the time they want to slow down, slowing down feels like rejection to you, and saying so feels like an accusation to them.
You don't have to become guarded. Just leave gaps. Ask a question you don't have a story for, and let the answer sit without matching it.
You know it's you when…
- Someone said it was a lot, and you heard it as not enough
- You told them something on night one you later wished back
- The first month was the best month, every single time
