It's worth being fair about it: this isn't automatically bad. Plenty of people want exactly this, for a season, on purpose. The problem is when only one person wants it, and the tell is which one of you is asking questions like this.
The reason it persists is that it costs the other person nothing. There's no pressure, no calendar, no definition to maintain — and things that cost nothing tend to continue indefinitely unless somebody makes them cost something.
