Who you are
You want the new thing, you handle your business before anyone has to remind you, and you do your best work late. This is the specific combination that makes things actually happen — appetite plus follow-through.
It is a genuinely strong position. You take the swing and you can also absorb it, because the boring infrastructure of your life is solid enough that a risk doesn't turn into a crisis. Most people have one half of this. Having both is why things you start tend to survive.
What it costs is rest. Being ahead on maintenance and still chasing new things means the hours have to come from somewhere, and they come from the late ones — which works right up until the month it doesn't.
Protect two nights a week where nothing gets built. Not a reward for finishing — a fixed part of the schedule, same as the bills.
You know it's you when…
- You took a real risk and it did not become a crisis
- Things you start tend to still exist a year later
- Your rest is the only line item with no protection
