The Candle
Not the loudest light in the room. The one people sit near.
Growth. Starting things and pushing upward.
Warmth. Being seen and lighting up a room.
Steadiness. Holding people and plans together.
Edge. Standards, decisions, cutting what's extra.
Depth. Reading the room and finding a way around.
Who you are
Yin Fire — 丁, jeong — is the candle, the lamp, the small fire you actually sit next to. The sun warms everyone at once; you warm one person at a time, very specifically. People leave a conversation with you feeling seen in a way that's hard for them to explain.
You pay attention. You remember what someone said three weeks ago and ask how it went. You're at your best late at night, one-on-one, when the conversation finally gets real. That focus also makes you good at work nobody else has the patience for.
A candle is sensitive to its surroundings. A draft that wouldn't bother anybody else can make you flicker, and you feel moods in a room more than you'd admit. You also give a lot of light for your size, which is exactly how candles burn down.
Worth remembering: someone has to tend the candle too. Let people return the attention you give out. It isn't a debt, it's how the light keeps going.
You know it's you when…
- Someone told you something at 1 a.m. they'd never said out loud
- You remembered a detail from weeks ago and they almost cried
- One small comment in a meeting quietly bothered you all day
