The Low Battery
No reaction, no signal, and nothing left by Friday.
You're fine in the room. It arrives once you're alone
Outside you look unbothered while a lot is happening underneath
You come down by getting alone and going completely quiet
Who you are
You barely register it as it happens and you don't show anything afterwards. What it costs you is drawn quietly from somewhere else — energy, patience, interest in things you normally like — and it usually gets noticed as tiredness rather than as a reaction to anything in particular.
In the short run this makes you extremely steady. Hard weeks don't visibly change you, you don't take it out on anyone, and people rely on you precisely because you're the one thing in the situation that behaves the same on Friday as it did on Monday.
The catch is that nothing is ever marked as finished. Without a reaction in the moment or an outlet afterwards, it doesn't get resolved so much as filed, and the filing is what the tiredness is. Because it looks like general low energy rather than a response to something specific, it also gets treated that way — by other people, and by you.
One line worth keeping: if the flatness doesn't lift when the pressure does, if it's there on the quiet weeks too, that's something other than a stress response and it's worth saying out loud to someone.
Name the cause once a week, even privately. "That's why I'm flat" is a different experience than being flat for no reason you can find.
You know it's you when…
- A brutal week and nobody could tell from the outside
- The tiredness never got connected to anything specific
- You behaved the same on Friday as you did on Monday
