You answer immediately and completely. Not fragments — a finished paragraph, warm, punctuated, covering the question and the two things they'll ask next. Somehow it lands ninety seconds after they sent theirs.
This is rare and people notice. It reads as being taken seriously, which for a lot of people is the thing they get least often over text. You are, in practice, giving strangers your full attention at typing speed.
The problem is asymmetry. Someone who sends yeah sounds good gets back six lines, and after a few rounds of that they start feeling like they owe you an essay back. Some of them solve it by replying less, which is the opposite of what you wanted.
Match their length once in a while, deliberately. Not to withhold — just so the exchange doesn't quietly become a debt.
