Who you are

You read everything and answer on your own schedule, once, completely, without decoration. Nothing about your texting is urgent or expressive, and none of that reflects how much you care — it reflects that the phone does not run you.

There's a real steadiness here that people underrate. You never send anything you regret, never spiral in a thread at midnight, and when your answer comes it is the actual answer. In a group full of noise you are the one signal.

But you are, in practice, the hardest person in anyone's phone to read. Slow, flat, and complete gives the other side nothing to work with between messages, and warm texters in particular will conclude you've lost interest long before you've thought about it at all.

Pick two or three people and tell them explicitly how you work. Not everyone — just the ones whose reading of you actually matters.

You know it's you when…

• You reply days later with the complete answer and nothing else
• You have never once sent a message you regretted at midnight
• Warm texters give up on you before you have even thought about it
